Description

This undergraduate level course follows Algebra I. Topics include group representations, rings, ideals, fields, polynomial rings, modules, factorization, integers in quadratic number fields, field extensions, and Galois theory.

Format and Grading

Students are expected to prepare for each class meeting by completing the assigned readings and exercises for each topic prior to class. However, the exercises will not be turned in or graded.

Grading for the course will be based on the following:

Weekly problem sets 25%
Three quizzes (25% each) 75%

Homework Problems

The weekly problem sets are an essential part of the course. Many of the problems are lengthy and difficult, and require serious thought. Students are encouraged to work in groups on these assignments. However, in the solutions, please list your collaborators at the top of your assignment.
